Possible Hidden Sources of Tree Nuts
Note - This list is a guide - please read all labels of
commercially prepared food carefully before using to ensure the food
is tree nut-free.
- beverages - Amaretto, Frangelico, nut flavoured coffees, nut
syrups (e.g. Monin);
- breads and pastries - all biscuits, biscotti, cakes and
pastries with unknown ingredients, fruit and nut rolls and
breads;
- breakfast cereals - fruit and nut cereals, muesli (check
labels for possible
cross-contamination of all cereals);
- dairy products - nut flavoured ice-creams, yoghurt;
- meat, fish and poultry - dishes including nuts such as
almond chicken, many Asian dishes including satays, stir-fries
with cashews, etc.;
- pastas - hot and cold pasta dishes with nuts such as pine
nuts;
- puddings and desserts - flourless cakes, frozen yoghurt,
ice-cream, sundae toppings, pie crusts;
- snacks and sweets - breakfast and health-food bars,
chocolate (particularly compounded, e.g. Easter eggs, fancy and
imported), popcorn, praline, nougat;
- take-away food - Asian food (such as satay, Indonesian,
Thai), egg rolls, spring rolls;
- vegetables - salads, vegetarian dishes including meat
substitutes, nut meats, burgers and sausages;
- other foods - Asian sauces, barbecue sauces, bouillon, pesto
sauce, satay and other sauces containing crushed nuts, salad
dressings, Worcestershire sauce;
- other items - shampoos, shaving creams and health-care
products containing almond oil, some animal and bird feed contain
peanuts and other nuts.
